Now and future

The use of light-emitting diode (LED) displays with the advantages of high efficiency and long life is considered to be a promising choice in the next generation of display technology. Benefiting from the advancement of LED chip size miniaturization and chip transfer technology, along with the increasing display resolution of applications, many potential applications are possible from backlights and large-scale flat displays to AR/VR, and even wearable applications are full of unlimited opportunities.

Compared with LCD and OLED miniaturized LED technology, there are many advantages and potentials: 1. Realize high brightness, high contrast 2. High luminous efficiency, low energy consumption: 3. Wide color gamut: can reach the color gamut of 110% NTSC; 4. Nanosecond response speed: The response speed is much higher than that of OLED and LCD. 5. Super long life.

When the size of the LED chip is reduced to 50-200μm, it is called Mini LED; when the size is further reduced to less than 50μm, it is called Micro LED, which is a micro light-emitting diode. Generally speaking, the size of Mini LED die and the pitch of application of specific pixel pitches are between traditional fine pitch LED and Micro LED applications. In addition to the reduction in chip dimension, the removal of sapphire substrate is also an evolutionary feature of Micro LED.

In addition, although Micro LED currently still has technical challenges such as device and transfer techs, its excellent luminous efficiency has great potential for future applications in transparent displays and wearable display devices.

As the outpost of Micro LED, Mini LED already has the feasibility of mass production technology. Macroblock combines the design experience of driver IC and Mini LED manufacturing technology, and launches highly integrated module solutions that can be applied to the LCD backlight and LED display markets.
