The MBIA129 is a general-purpose matrix LED driver with a standard SPI interface. Each MBIA129 has 12 constant current driving channels and 8 time-multiplexed scan switches. The driver IC can be set up in cascading configuration to control the extended RGB matrix via addressed data transmission. MBIA129 is designed for full-color backlit applications, such as PC gaming devices, and consumer and white goods applications, and are able to be powered by USB or battery.
MBIA129 with an internal PWM clock features an 8-bit grayscale control for each LED, which can generate a color combination of up to 16.8 million colors per LED pixel. With 8-bit (256-step) group current gain, each group of R/G/B color LED can be controlled separately, giving flexibility for brightness adjustments. The driver IC has embedded MOS switches to simplify application design. The output current can be set to use an external resistor for constant current adjustments.
MBIA129 features the de-ghost function, which eliminates the ghosting effect of LED matrix architecture. The device supports open/short error detections and has a power saving mode that lowers the power consumption of device operation and stand-by.
