MBI5754 is designed for common cathode LED video applications using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control with selectable 16/15/14/13 bit color depth. MBI5754 features a shift register that converts serial input data into each pixel’s grayscale of the output port. Sixteen regulated current ports are designed to provide uniform and constant current sources for driving LEDs with a wide range of VF variations. The output current can be preset through an external resistor. MBI5754 is designed to support up to 1:64 time-multiplexing applications with embedded SRAM architecture. The user only requires to send the whole frame data once to be stored in the embedded SRAM of the LED driver, instead of sending data every time when the scan line is changed. This helps to save the data bandwidth and to achieve higher grayscale with low data clock frequency. With scan-type Scrambled-PWM (S-PWM) technology, MBI5754 enhances PWM by scrambling the “on” time of each scan line into several “on” periods and sequentially drives each scan line for the short “on” periods. This enhancement increases the visual refresh rate of scan-type LED displays. In addition, the innovative GCLK multiplier technique doubles the visual refresh rate.

MBI5754 has compulsory error detection to detect individual LEDs for open-circuit errors without extra components. The driver IC is also equipped with a cross elimination circuit that solves the cross phenomenon induced by failure LEDs, as well as solving the LED ghosting effect and reducing high contrast interference to improve image quality.
