MBI6705 is an adjustable frequency, peak current mode step-up DC/DC controller with 4 constant current output channels to drive up to 4 LED strings. It is designed for large LCD panels that employ an array of LEDs as the light source. MBI6705 accepts wide input voltage range from 10V to 30V. MBI6705 is built with complete protection features to protect the controller from fault situations. The soft-start function eliminates the inrush current while the power is on. The integrated protections, UVLO, OVP, OCP, and OTP avoid MBI6705 from being damaged from fault conditions.

MBI6705 can receive external pulse width modulation (PWM) dimming control signal to turn on/off the output voltage according to the dimming and provide 4 constant current output channels which drive external MOSFET.  The output current of every channel depends on the selected MOSFET and the current sensing resistor. The minimum pulse is as low as 2µs. Thus, MBI6705 can achieve 2500:1 dimming ratio, if PWM dimming frequency is 200Hz. MBI6705 also integrates LED open- and short-circuit detections and protections. MBI6705 drives an external MOSFET, which provides good efficiency and maximizes the operating voltage. The selectable switching frequency also allows optimization of the component size and system efficiency. MBI6705 is available in a SOP-28L-300-1.73 package.
