Macroblock is a dedicated mixed-signal IC company and is chartered to provide solutions for opto-electronic applications. Among the wide opto-electronic devices, we choose adequate devices as the axis for technology development. We explore the device nature. Based on the understanding of the device characteristics, we develop the necessary technology to fully exploit the advantages of the devices. The technology development also covers the product performance, functionality, ease of use, reliability, cost-effectiveness and design flexibility.
 
The most widely used opto-electronic devices would be the devices for displays. With the increasingly wide applications of flat panel displays, providing IC solutions becomes very promising and essential. Display devices, such as LCD, LED, OLED, or PDP, perform their excellence in different occasions, due to their distinct characteristics. The distinction results in the demands of specific driver ICs to deliver voltage and current to adapt the individually specific characteristics. LCD requires tens of volts; PDP requires hundreds of volts; LED requires a few tens of milli-amperes. All the voltage and current ranges are beyond the conventional digital circuit.
Due to the improvement of LED efficacy, LEDs for lighting and backlighting are proven to be useful in the near future. We also develop the power conversion technology. Currently we are focusing on LED related applications.
 
The circuit design techniques dominate the IC performance. Developing the contemporary circuitry technique aiming at the opto-electronic device characteristics, we pursue the performance excellence. We emphasize the accuracy, uniformity, consistency, and response time. We innovate novel architecture and algorithm, improve the circuit efficiency and care the design methodology.
 
A right IC solution always goes with ease of use. We consider the usage cost by analyzing the application condition. Users’ legacy design is a primary concern. Backward compatibility is the way to provide superior functionality while maintaining the minimum usage cost.
 
The opto-electronic ICs directly engage the opto-electronic devices. High sustainability and durability secure the end-product lifetime. Hence we set a high standard to qualify our ICs. Circuit design with robust foundry process founds the basis of IC reliability. High sustainability design for ESD and Latch-up helps the reliability. Strict package qualification helps the durability. Thorough in-house burn-in test and vast environmental test guarantee the reliability from severe application exceptions. We consider the reliability starting with circuit design and throughout the manufacturing process.
 
Exploiting the state-of-the-art foundry process satisfies the cost target and maintains the competitiveness. The choice of mainstream foundry process guarantees the supply sufficiency. Quick manufacturing cycle time directly impact the product delivery time.
 
We utilize modular design methodology to reuse the proven design. A new design inherits the performance and reliability. Such modularity provides the quick turn-around and the flexibility to meet the market timing. We build the reference design for product applications. By such means the customer will have intensive support.
